Collection: MEXICAN TALAVERA

This collection honors the different talaveras that I found in some of the most important neighborhoods in Mexico City, as well as in some of my travels through the Mexican Republic.

It is considered one of the most distinguished artisan traditions in the country, due to its delicate manufacturing.

The talavera is a type of majolica (common ware with metallic enamel) from the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala. The quality of its clays and the tradition of its manufacture date back to the 16th century. The colors used in its decoration are blue, yellow, black, green, orange and mauve. Each piece is made by hand around the wheel, and the glaze contains tin and lead, as they have been made since vice-royal times.
